There’s more to being well than just exercising and eating healthy foods. Taking a complete approach to your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is critical for your overall wellness. We like to term this as self-care. Here are a couple of our favorite methods for practicing self-care.
We may be observing social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we can’t stay connected! Organize a digital coffee break or happy hour with your friends. Keep it cheerful and tell each other one good thing that happened to you in the last few days. Think about plans for when you can meet again and how great it will be to give them an enormous, warm hug. Together we are better prepared to handle this and can be there for each other. That’s what friends are made for!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Draft a schedule for your yourself but allow for some flexibility. For instance, get up around the same time every morning and get ready for bed around the same time every evening. Write down your intentions for the day and plan out your work tasks, but give yourself some time for your daily workout, a walk outdoors, or to turn to your favorite book. Don’t be too harsh with your plan that you add extra stress. Finding a balance between a program and leisure will help you have a more useful and rewarding day.
Gratitude is good for humans. The more gratitude we display to others during troubled times, the happier and tougher we become. Offer others grace. One of our favorite ways to offer gratitude is to contact a loved one and tell them how much you cherish them. A a simple note is also a welcome and wonderful surprise that is guaranteed to make anyone’s day.
There’s not a thing better than spending time out of the house, taking in the fresh air. Take a stroll with your dog every day after lunch. Wave hello to your neighbors (from a physical distance) and ask them how they’re holding up. Stand in the sunshine for a while and focus on taking deep breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out together at our local favorites doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate our meals! Create a new dish for dinner and make your meals feel special. Turn on your favorite album, get the kiddos involved, and have a fun time with it!
